There You Have It

The completed classic, red Bi-Plane, with a more modern body. I am mostly pleased with this, though there are a few things I would tweak with the shading, starting with changing my brush opacity for the layered style of shading, for it gives it a more realistic look. Overall, I think it looks halfway decent for my first plane painting. I think a jet would be fun to do too…… (foreshadowing? perhaps….)

Snakes on a Plane (not really)

Obviously, there are no snakes on this plane, however, it IS a plane. This is my basework for the body and I began to add some sketchy detail as a layout for the final. This is turning out halfway decent so far, so I am crossing my fingers.

Plane Background

So I have started that plane like I promised. It will be a classic red Biplane. This is just the background (hope you were able to figure that out on your own), and it is currently a foresty-mountain area. After I finished it, I wondered if I should have made it an open field with a bright blue sky. What do you think?

P.S. I just got some new music off of iTunes: Breaking Benjamin, Bullet for My Valentine, Skillet, and Three Days Grace! I know you probably don’t really care, but I do!

War Birds

This piece is titled War Birds, and it was inspired by the assignment of drawing a giant bird interacting with a city. I envisioned this giant phoenix wreaking havoc on a city, leading its own ‘minions’ if you will. They would start off as bombs (to represent war and the violence) and then morph into various birds of prey as they fell through the air. For once in my life, I think something actually turned out how I wanted it to. I am especially pleased with the shading on the phoenix. Once again, if you click on the image, the quality will improve once you zoom in.

Tired

Here is the second to last piece for this week. I changed the contrast in Photoshop Elements so you could see the shading a little better. Next week I am doing a lineless painting of an airplane. I have never drawn an airplane before, so it should be interesting. So that is about it. I am tired, it’s late, and I just want to go to bed. Enjoy.

I am really into Bullet For My Valentine at the moment.

Whoops.

I almost forgot to post a piece of art today….. Perhaps it was the unusual lack of work that distracted me……

I know it looks kind of blurry, but if you click on it and zoom in, the quality should improve.

Also, that sea monster I posted yesterday, I decided to try to add some linework in Photoshop Elements, and it looks really good so far. I will post it when it is completed.

Sea Monster!

This is one of the few attempts I have made at coloring with chalk pastel, despite the fact that I don’t have any problems with that medium. I think I might just have an issue with using color in my art…. outside of digital art that is. I drew this sea monster first, and then colored over it with chalk pastel, blending with my finger.

A True Stalker

Here, a jaguar is depicted, a true stalker. A jaguar can be determined from a leopard since they have a more muscular appearance, and just an overall ‘chunky’ look to them, especially in the legs and head.

Here We Are

It’s that time again! Old art! I started this piece a year ago, but I just finished it a week ago. I am kind of pathetic like that. It’s a shame that the scanner made the image so grainy…. Anyway, the book I got this image from had a really good method for creating whiskers so I figured I would share it. You engrave the paper with a blunt tool where you want the whiskers, and then you just draw over and around it. It is an impression, so the pencil glides right on over.

I did this a year ago as well, but I shaded it around the time I finished the above kittens. The bottom got cut off a little, as did the tree stump on the left. I personally really like how this one turned out. 🙂

As a side note, the title of this entry, Here We Are, is a song by Breaking Benjamin. Look it up.

And so it is FRIDAY Once Again

I have been practicing my own take on cell shading, hence the style of art for the past week.
